Compare / Snyk alternative

An open source Snyk alternative for servers and deployed apps

Snyk is built around the developer: code, dependencies and images, checked in the IDE, pull requests and CI. Stackurity is built around what you run, with an open-source core you can host yourself.

In short. Snyk is a developer security platform. It scans your code, open-source dependencies, container images and infrastructure as code from the IDE, the CLI, pull requests and CI, and it is hosted. Stackurity is open-source vulnerability and end-of-life management for what you run: a read-only agent on your servers plus repositories, images, Kubernetes and AWS, with CISA KEV priorities and fixes tracked until a fresh report confirms them.

If you want security checks while developers write code, Snyk is the stronger fit. If you want to know what is vulnerable or end of life on your servers and deployed applications, self-hosted for free or hosted from $10 a month, Stackurity is built for that.

What each one is

Snyk

Snyk sells a security platform made of several products: Snyk Code for static analysis of your own code, Snyk Open Source for dependencies, Snyk Container for images, Snyk IaC for infrastructure as code, and further products for secrets, API and web testing and AI agents[1]. In October 2026 it launched Evo Agentic AppSec, a set of AI security agents; most are in preview, among them the Evo Dependency Firewall, which blocks malicious and out-of-policy packages at install time and is in experimental preview for select customers[15]. Developers use it through IDE plugins, the CLI and source control integrations[1][7]. Its Free and Team plans are aimed at individual developers and small teams; Enterprise uses prepaid credits[1].

Stackurity

Stackurity is open-source vulnerability and end-of-life management. It keeps one live inventory of the software on your servers, deployed applications, repositories, container images, Kubernetes and AWS managed services. It matches that inventory against new advisories and the CISA KEV catalogue every hour and against end-of-life dates every day, and gives each team a short list of upgrades, most urgent first. After a fix it checks again and records whether the issue is really gone. The core is Apache-2.0, sold by OUTDO INC as Stackurity Cloud and as paid licences for extra features.

Why teams look for a Snyk alternative

Three needs can lead a team to look beyond Snyk, and Stackurity answers only some of them:

If what you need is static analysis of your own code, Stackurity is not an alternative. Stackurity checks the software you run and the dependencies you declare; it does not scan your own source code.

Snyk pricing compared with Stackurity

On 29 Oct 2026, Snyk’s pricing page listed[1]:

Stackurity is priced by asset rather than by developer. Community is free forever when self-hosted. Stackurity Cloud has a 14-day free trial without a card, then Starter at $10 a month for 5 assets, Team at $35 for 20 and Business at $79 for 50, and yearly plans cost ten months. See pricing for details.

 SnykStackurity
What it checksYour own code (Snyk Code, static analysis), open-source dependencies (Snyk Open Source), container images (Snyk Container) and infrastructure as code (Snyk IaC); the wider platform also covers secrets and API and web testing[1]. Evo Agentic AppSec adds AI agents, mostly in preview, including a dependency firewall that blocks malicious packages at install time[15]Known vulnerabilities and end of life in the software you install and deploy: operating system packages, runtimes, application libraries, images and managed services
Inventory sourcesRepositories through source control integrations, the Snyk CLI, IDE plugins and CI[1][2]; container images and registries[3]; Kubernetes workloads on Enterprise plans[12]A read-only agent on Linux servers (installed packages, runtimes installed by hand, the libraries deployed applications load), repositories and CI scans, container images, Kubernetes workloads, AWS managed services, and CycloneDX or SPDX SBOMs
EcosystemsSnyk Open Source supports C/C++, Dart and Flutter, Elixir, Go, Java and Kotlin, JavaScript, .NET, PHP, Python, Ruby, Scala, Swift and Objective-C, and TypeScript, with limited support for Rust[2]. Snyk Container lists the Linux distributions it supports[3]Operating system packages assessed on Debian, Ubuntu, Alpine, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise, openSUSE Leap, Oracle Linux and Amazon Linux 2023 and 2. npm, Composer, PyPI, Go, RubyGems, NuGet and Dart; Maven, Gradle, Cargo, Hex and Swift through stack packs (C/C++ and CocoaPods are inventoried only)
End-of-life trackingFor a container image on an unsupported distribution, for example one that has reached end of life, Snyk shows a message that it is unsupported[3]. End-of-life dates for runtimes or services are not covered in the docs we checkedEnd-of-life dates for operating systems, runtimes, Kubernetes and AWS managed services, checked daily, aware of distributions that still patch their own packages
CISA KEV and exploitation priorityA Priority Score and a Risk Score built from factors such as CVSS, exploit maturity, EPSS and reachability[4][5]. The CISA KEV catalogue is one of the sources Snyk uses to determine exploits[6]CISA KEV checked hourly. Each finding gets a priority from P1 (most urgent) to P4 from exploitation, exposure and environment, with one sentence on why
Fix tracking and verificationFix pull requests, which can be opened automatically for GitHub, Bitbucket, GitLab and Azure Repos[9]; pull request checks that block new vulnerabilities[13]One card per upgrade with the version to move to and every issue it clears; Check again asks the agent for a fresh report and records passed, partly fixed or still open. Pro adds Renovate pull requests for npm and Composer and opt-in automatic fixing on hosts
Developer toolsIDE plugins for VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Visual Studio and Eclipse[7]; the CLI, source control and CI/CD integrations[2]No IDE plugin. A CLI and GitHub Action for CI, with a gate that fails a build by severity, priority or CISA KEV
DeploymentHosted by Snyk, multi-tenant or as a single-tenant Snyk Private Cloud; on Enterprise plans, data can be hosted in US, EU (Frankfurt) or Australian regions[14]. Snyk Broker connects it to systems in private networks, on Enterprise plans[10]Self-hosted with Docker Compose or a Helm chart, with no vendor account and no telemetry, or hosted as Stackurity Cloud (India, DigitalOcean Bangalore)
LicenceCommercial service; the Snyk CLI is open source under Apache-2.0[11]Apache-2.0 core. Automatic fixing, evidence reports, several teams and single sign-on are paid Pro features
PricingFree: $0 with test limits per product and up to 5 projects. Team: from $25 a month, for teams of up to 10 developers. Enterprise: prepaid credits at $1 each, charged per capability, for example per active contributor or per monitored image per day[1]Community: free forever, self-hosted. Stackurity Cloud: Starter $10 a month (5 assets), Team $35 (20 assets), Business $79 (50 assets), after a 14-day free trial
AI assistant (MCP)Snyk Studio, with a Snyk MCP server, for AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI and GitHub Copilot[8]Built-in MCP server with OAuth sign-in, for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients. Read-only unless you allow changes

Using them together

Snyk and Stackurity cover different stages, so many teams could run both: Snyk in the IDE, in pull requests and in CI, and Stackurity on the servers, images and clusters where the code ends up. Both can scan repositories and container images, so decide which tool alerts for those to avoid duplicate tickets. Stackurity’s CI gate (stackurity scan --fail-on-kev, for example) is optional if Snyk already gates your builds.

Questions

Is there an open source alternative to Snyk?

For dependency, container and server vulnerabilities, yes: Stackurity’s core is open source under Apache-2.0 and can be self-hosted for free. It covers open-source packages in repositories, images and on servers, plus end of life. It does not replace Snyk Code’s static analysis, IaC checks or IDE plugins.

Is Stackurity a drop-in replacement for Snyk?

No. Snyk covers static analysis of your code, IDE plugins, infrastructure as code and more, which Stackurity does not. Stackurity replaces Snyk only where your need is open-source dependency and image scanning, or where you mainly need to know what is vulnerable or end of life on servers and deployed applications.

How much does Snyk cost?

On 29 Oct 2026 Snyk’s pricing page listed a Free plan at $0 with test limits, a Team plan from $25 a month for teams of up to 10 developers, and an Enterprise subscription based on prepaid credits at $1 each. Check snyk.io/plans for current prices.

Does Stackurity scan my source code?

No. Stackurity checks the software you run and the dependencies you declare; it does not scan your own source code. In repositories it reads lockfiles and manifests to find the open-source packages you use. For static analysis, keep a tool such as Snyk Code.

Can I self-host Stackurity?

Yes. The Community edition is free forever under Apache-2.0 and runs with Docker Compose or a Helm chart on your own server, with no vendor account and no telemetry. Paid features are unlocked with an offline licence key.

Does Stackurity open fix pull requests?

With Pro, Stackurity provides the configuration for Renovate pull requests in npm and Composer repositories, using a Renovate runner you operate. On servers, Pro can also apply fixes automatically, opt-in per host and limited by remediation policies you set.
